Our story

A seat at the table for everyone.

Our story

Made in Furness, for Furness.

Light & Salt started with a simple idea. A proper local, with good food, a real welcome and a seat for everyone.

For some of us, Furness is where it all began. For all of us, it's home. The fells, the bay, the towns, the villages and the people in them. We wanted a place that does it justice.

We're a Community Interest Company, which means we're a proper business with a purpose. The pub pays its way, and every drink and every plate helps us do a bit of good round here.

The name comes from an old idea about good people: be the salt of the earth, and a light where you are. It's how we want to run the place, and it's how we cook too. Light to start, Salt to follow.

The Railway Inn, in Lindal, is where it happens. Stone walls, a warm room, tables made for sharing. Opening Saturday 31 October, from 3pm.

The place

Furness.

Between the fells and Morecambe Bay, with farmland all around. It's where our food comes from, and who we cook for.
